It is our privileged to shelter homeless veterans every night but once a year we go all out to honor our veterans at the CCO Veteran’s Day Dinner.
This year, 92 year old Tuskegee Airmen, Virgil M. Poole Sr. graced us with his presence and words of encouragement. Our veterans were honored with a delicious soul food meal and music provided by Pierre & Louise Walker of St. Sabina Church. All of CCO’s shelter guests enjoyed the meal and festivities but a few tables were set up and decorated especially for our veterans.
This week is Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week. Take a moment to consider the men and women who served the United States in the armed forces. Many of these men and women are homeless and in need of safe shelter and supportive services. We have had the joy of seeing veterans stabilize their lives and move into permanent housing. Become a part of the good things that are happening at CCO. Volunteer or donate today.
Homelessness & Hunger Awareness Week has begun. Do you want to help alleviate hunger and homelessness in Chicago? If so, consider donating your time, talents or funds to help improve the lives of CCO’s shelter guests.
Each night CCO shelters over 300 women, men and families. Over 150 households take healthy foods home from our food pantry program each week.
Poverty issues like hunger and homelessness can seem large and overwhelming. It is easy to assume that our individual efforts won’t have an impact. While no agency or individual has all the answers, CCO and many other organizations are working hard to help alleviate homelessness and fill the hungry. Join us in our efforts to provide nutritious meals, safe shelter and valuable services to our homeless families and individuals. Consider donating today. Thank you!

CCO donors, volunteers and staff have helped us shelter over 1,100 people and serve over 200,000 meals in 2012. For a little more than $1 a day we can provide 3 nutritious meals to one shelter guest. For a little less than $15 a day CCO can provide “wrap-around services” such as, safe shelter, meals and critical case management services to one shelter guest.
Be part of the good things that are happening at CCO!
