The Bears brought the Holiday Party!

The holidays give a chance to celebrate each person who came through the doors of Cornerstone over the year and previous years. Today, Chicago Bears player Sam Acho and his teammates, with matching donations from The Chicago Bears, sponsored the parties for both the men and women at Cornerstone.

It was a great party, with food from Jewel Foods, Papa Johns and Aldi, and each person gets gifts of new items to help them out, from socks to hats, and everything in between. Thank you so much for your awesome support.

Ready for Presents!

Over 120 children and youth are sheltered with their parents at CCO, during the holidays and all throughout the year. You, as a donor, volunteer, and supporter have always been a valuable part of making the season bright for each and every child.

The giving doesn’t stop with the families. The residents of our single women and single men’s shelters are no less important. Each program celebrates with a festive party that includes decorations, a delicious holiday meal and gifts. Everyone is valued and no one is left out.

Help us make the Holiday Season shine at CCO! Consider donating new toys, teen presents, or items for our single adults. Don’t like shopping? You can help by making a financial gift that will allow our Christmas volunteers to provide presents for families who arrive at CCO a day or two before Christmas.

Contact Eve at eve@ccolife.org if you would like to help us this Holiday Season.

Holiday Shopping, Holiday Giving

Donate for homeless familiesThe Holiday Season is here! When you reflect on what you are thankful for, whom you want to surprise with a gift, and what causes to support, consider helping a homeless family in Chicago. Every day more families experience homelessness for the first time.

Right now, over 40 families and 125 children are sheltered at Cornerstone. Every families path to housing is different, including the length of time it may take to get housed.

For $22.00 per night, CCO can provide three meals per day, case management, personal hygiene and clothing, and the safe place to sleep. As the average length of time it takes for a family to get housed is around one-hundred and eight days, that estimated cost per family is $4000.00. Half of that cost is paid for in part by the City of Chicago, however Cornerstone needs your help to pay for the other half!

You can provide this opportunity for success for a homeless family. Your support is what makes it possible. Every person and family who moves from homelessness to housing is a cause for celebration!

Today, and throughout this holiday season, please consider making a one-time or on-going donation as your Holiday Gift to help a homeless family get housed. Whether you can provide one night of shelter for $22, or a hundred nights, your donation will make a difference in the life of families experiencing homelessness. Make Your Donation Today!

Is CCO on Your Christmas List?

Coat Angels 2016

A lovely thing about Christmas is that it’s compulsory, like a thunderstorm, and we all go through it together.

Generosity Gets Its Day!

It’s Giving Tuesday! Join us for a day of generosity and giving. Giving Tuesday follows Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday. It is a global event that was created as an opportunity to give generously following a weekend of shopping and consumerism. Consider giving to CCO this Giving Tuesday!

Their are a lot of ways to give…

Your financial gift will provide warm meals, a safe shelter space, and compassionate care, to the homeless families and individuals we shelter. This year we hope to raise $18,000 in on-line donations between Giving Tuesday and December 31. Consider donating today!

Your volunteer hours will go a long way in serving our shelter guests. Consider being a part of Team CCO, our charitable fitness team in 2017. Or maybe you’d like to do what you love and donate a portion of your earnings to CCO. Christmas is just around the corner. If you are interested in donating new gift items for the families and singles sheltered at CCO please contact Eve at eve@ccolife.org.

Here’s a few more

Share this post with friends and family. It’s about Giving Tuesday and explains ways to get involved at CCO.

– Take an #unselfie and share it on your Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram account. Here’s an example of one. An #unselfie is a simple way to show that you support the good things that are happening at CCO. It’s fun, free, and makes others aware of a charity your stand behind.

– Read and share one of our CCO Success Stories and encourage friends and family to support CCO through prayer, a financial gift, gently-used items, or volunteer hours.

– Share one of our Facebook or CCOlife posts and encourage others to do the same. Click here to read a post that is about hunger and the CCO food pantry or search for another one that interests you.

– Encourage others to join our charitable fitness group, Team CCO.

Share this post that talks about the huge variety of people we shelter and care for at CCO.
These are just a few ways you can show your support for CCO.
Thank you for all the ways you’ve stood behind us over the years.

Unique Gift Giving at CCO

Merry Christmas

We have had many parents tell us that their Christmas at CCO has been the best Christmas they’ve ever had. Hearing comments like that make all the work worth it!

We have a unique approach to gift giving at CCO. Instead of giving out gifts to the children ourselves. Gifts are delivered to the parents of each family wrapped and labeled. They are then able to celebrate the holiday when and how they choose. This way, parents feel empowered and able to give gifts to their children themselves. This simple shift in gift giving has really encouraged parents, which is especially important while they are experiencing homelessness.

Of course, parents aren’t left out! Many of our generous donors shop for special items that will make parents feel cared for over the holidays. One faithful donor has purchased new, fluffy robes for each of the mothers in our Hannah House program for years! This gift is always a hit.

Our single men and single women’s shelter programs always have a Christmas party that includes gift items, practical necessities, festive food, and music. The women even have a holiday talent show with singing, dancing and prizes!

We want everyone to feel loved and cared for. This is especially important as they experience homelessness. Thank you to everyone who has volunteered time, purchased new gift items, or financially donated to make the Holiday’s bright at CCO!

If you haven’t donated and you’d like to click here. Thank you!

Willow Creek Christmas Celebration!

Willow Creek

Nearly 100 Willow Creek Church volunteers created a fun and festive Christmas celebration for the families at CCO. Some of the moms sheltered with us got manicures and gifts were brought and given to over 130 children. The group brought supplies for each of the children to put together sweet, little gingerbread houses complete with candy decorations and icing. Other activities included, cooking decorating and painting.

Another group of volunteers worked in the Free Store organizing donated items for our shelter guests and neighbors in need. The Free Store offers gently-used clothing and household items that come to CCO through out donors. Hundreds of people get their needs met through the CCO Free Store each year!

Thank you Willow Creek Church!
