Great job, Robert! It’s good to see you with your new apartment keys. Congratulations!
CCO’s Shelter for Men provides bed space for 65 men each night. During the day men in the shelter program are offered intensive case management services, meals, on-site medical and mental health services, and a variety of services that meet the complex needs of each individual. Our goal is always stable, permanent housing. And it is our privilege to see our shelter guests move from homeless to housed! Join us in our efforts to provide safe, beneficial shelter. Donate Today!

Rest in peace, Humberto. You are loved and missed. CCO staff, volunteers and shelter guests have been blessed to know you.
“The grace and humility of Humberto affected all of us. As we’d play dominoes together, I see how his quiet gentleness and contagious smile would bless all those surrounded him. People wanted to assist him, by doing things for him, like getting him meals. Even though he was unable to communicate with most of us through words, his generous actions and gentle demeanor ensured he found plenty of family and friendship within our walls.”
It’s great to see Arturo in his brand new apartment! Congratulations!
It’s been an exciting week at CCO. Several of our single shelter guests have moved into permanent, stable housing. Five people found employment and two families moved into apartments this week from our family programs. We are grateful for all the success!
In 2013, over 170 people moved into permanent housing from one of CCO’s shelter programs or through street outreach. We never get tired of seeing our former shelter guests showing off their apartment keys!

“Finding home” is the moment when housing happens for a homeless person. We are proud of our shelter guests and case managers that work to find a place for everyone. It is pure joy to see someone with new apartment keys and a big smile.

DaChanell is moving into permanent housing with her children! She is pictured here with her case manager, Mary Davenport. Mary said it has been a joy to work with her and it’s great to see a smile on her face. Congratulations, DaChanell!
CCO donors, volunteers and staff have helped us shelter over 1,100 people and serve over 200,000 meals in 2012. For a little more than $1 a day we can provide 3 nutritious meals to one shelter guest. For a little less than $15 a day CCO can provide “wrap-around services” such as, safe shelter, meals and critical case management services to one shelter guest.

Some of you may remember Solomon, who successfully moved from CCO into his own place in June. This is what he had to say about his apartment at Friendly Towers. “I’m in heaven! I paid my rent on the first of the month. It is such a nice place. I love it!” Solomon expressed how grateful he is to the CCO staff that worked with him while he was homeless and the staff of Friendly Towers. His energy, gratitude and relentless smile is a great encouragement to us all!
If the plight of homeless senior citizens is close to your heart consider donating today. CCO offers shelter to senior citizens and collaborates with agencies and affordable housing sites all over Chicago to secure housing for our most vulnerable populations.

“11:05am, December 4, 2002, he was born. Lydell Doss, III, arrived breach with his brown eyes wide open. It was beautiful to see his first movements and to hear his new born cries. One day later I would be crying in disbelief…”
Take a moment and read Lydell’s story, “I Decided to Stay.” It is a moving account of a father’s love for his son and his struggle to create a home for him.
