Accessibility Matching Grant Challenge

IMG_1520

With $20,000 one generous family has set the foundation for our Accessibility Matching Grant Challenge. Many of our residents have chronic physical health problems or small children in strollers; some of our residents are aging or elderly. These and other circumstances make navigating the stairs especially challenging. Our long-awaited elevator is near completion, and with your donation our Sylvia Center shelter building will be fully accessible in 2013. Donate toward this exciting project and your gift will be doubled!

Help Us Build Funding to Build an Elevator!

We are quickly nearing our target completion date for the installation of our elevator into our 5-story Sylvia Center building! The completion of this elevator will mean that our shelter will become more accessible, allowing our residents and staff of all ages and health to navigate our building with ease. In addition, we will be better suited to process donations and run our 5th floor  free clothing store for our residents and neighbors. As exciting as this project is, we need assistance to finish! We have 79% of the funding needed for the elevator, but we still need about $59,000 more (eek! Elevators are expensive).

Help us to complete our elevator and build up our funding to cover 100% of the cost!

The Elevator is Going Up!

Today's progress, February 15th: the elevator penthouse is almost done.

The bottom of the elevator, the site of the most work.

“I’ll be glad when the elevator is done!” We hear these words all the time from mothers lugging strollers up the stairs to elderly men with health problems and everyone in between. For many of our residents an elevator will not be a luxury, but a necessity.

We are happy to report that each day we see the Sylvia Center coming closer to developing into an accessible building. And we look forward to the day when we can watch the children, senior citizens and chronically ill who live at CCO ride the elevator.

Over 75% of the funds have already been raised for the elevator. We still need $62,000 to finish the project.  If you are interested in contributing to this vital project you can donate by using the green Donate button or you can donate by mail at:
