Marathon Info #1 Expo and Packet Pickup – 2013

This is the first in a series regarding the Chicago Marathon weekend.
If this is not your first time, you may know most of this, but they made some changes to enhance safety/security this year.

This years biggest change is that you must pick up your own bib. No one else can do it for you. If you already feel freaked out hang in there.
You can click the title of each item for the info on the Chicago Marathon website.

  • Your Bib. When you arrive, you first pick up your Bib. Bring your valid ID and your confirmation ticket. The confirmation ticket will come in the mail attached to the Participant Guide, and will also come in your email. You can also get it there, but you must have your ID.
    • The Bib is in an envelope along with the Timing Chip, safety pins, gear check tag and gear check fastener.
      • Verify that the info printed on the envelope is correct.
      • Tip: Ask for extra safety pins! You use them to pin the bib on, and having an extra attached to you helps incase one falls off.
      • This year the Timing chip is attached to the Bib, and must stay attached to it. Do not fold it!
      • The gear check tag and fastener are needed to put your Participant bag in gear check. No tag/fastener, no checking in the bag.
  • Participant Bag and T-Shirt. Next you walk all the way through the Expo exhibits to go get your
    • Walk to the counter that matches your gender and shirt size.
    • They scan your Bib envelope, so keep it handy
    • The Participant bag is the only bag you can bring through security on race day.
    • Make sure that the T-Shirt is your size. You can ask for a different one.
  • The Expo Hours of Operation are
    • Friday, October 11: 9 a.m. – 8 p.m.
    • Saturday, October 12: 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.
    • If you absolutely positively will not be able to get there in that time frame, the Chicago Marathon has offered for you to email packetpickup@chicagomarathon.com to seek a resolution.
  • The Expo is at
    • McCormick Place Convention Center
      North Building, Hall B1
      2301 S. Martin Luther King Dr.
      Chicago, IL 60616
  • There are shuttles from 4 locations that can get you to the Expo.
