Alleviating Hunger in Chicago

CCO Food Pantry

Each week the CCO Food Pantry provides nutritious food items to over 150 pantry attendees. “Grammy”, pictured in blue, has been a long time pantry volunteer. She works weekly along with a small army of folks who give their time to offer food with a smile and a word of encouragement.

Would you like to volunteer to serve at CCO? Click here if you would like more information on volunteering your time and energy.

Are you interested in joining Team CCO at the Greater Chicago Food Depository Hunger Walk? The Hunger Walk is a 3.1 mile walk through Chicago’s beautiful downtown, lake front area. Each person walking for CCO will increase our food credit by 224 pounds with the Food Depot. The credit is used to purchase food for our shelter guests, food pantry patrons and dinner guests. Click here for more info about the Hunger Walk.

THE LIVING NEWS: SHELTER

The play will be performed at CCO and at the Chicago Cultural Center with a panel discussion to follow. Click here for date and time information.

“Artists and journalists are working with policy-makers, social workers, and homeless men, women and children, to create THE LIVING NEWS: SHELTER — a play that propels citizens to examine the complicated terrain between flashy headline news and the often invisible worlds of those living homeless on American streets.”

“I’m in heaven!”

Jeremy & Solomon

Solomon with Jeremy Nicholls, CCO staff member.

Some of you may remember Solomon, who successfully moved from CCO into his own place in June. This is what he had to say about his apartment at Friendly Towers. “I’m in heaven! I paid my rent on the first of the month. It is such a nice place. I love it!” Solomon expressed how grateful he is to the CCO staff that worked with him while he was homeless and the staff of Friendly Towers. His energy, gratitude and relentless smile is a great encouragement to us all!

If the plight of homeless senior citizens is close to your heart consider donating today. CCO offers shelter to senior citizens and collaborates with agencies and affordable housing sites all over Chicago to secure housing for our most vulnerable populations.
