CCO would like to say thank you to Michelle Britton for putting together such an amazing gallery event last week!

Five Photographers : Five Visions of Social Justice was a success! Many prints for silent auction sold and the event was well attended.

Thank you to Alibi Fine Art Gallery who provided a beautiful and welcoming space for everyone to view the prints. And a huge thank you to photographers, Sandro, Jim Newberry, David Gremp, Fred Burkhart and Michelle Britton who donated prints and the patrons who purchased them! It was a great night!

Don’t miss Five Photographer : Five Visions of Social Justice event that will be taking place on Thursday, August 29 at Alibi Art Gallery from 6 – 9pm. The night will include a silent auction of selected prints by Jim Newberry, Sandro, Fred Burkhart, David Gremp and Michelle Britton.

These amazing photographers have captured the city and urban life in the images that will be on display. Michelle Britton, CCO intern and Chicago photographer, will have prints of CCO residents on display.

Chicago photo-documentary artist, Fred Burkhart, has contributed two photographs and a drawing for the silent auction at Alibi Art Gallery on Thursday, August 29 from 6 – 9pm. The $10 cover charge and all proceeds from the silent auction go to CCO. Join us for this one-night only special event!

Jim Newberry (see images above) has been shooting pictures in Chicago since the early 80s, influenced by his father, who founded the photography department at Columbia College Chicago. In the 70s, his father occasionally brought him along on his trips to photograph the Maxwell Street market. Both donated photographs were shot for the Reader in 1988 and 1991.

David Gremp’s contribution (seen above) is taken from his Chicago 78/79 series created during a 12-month artist-in-residency with the Chicago Council on Fine Arts, a program that existed from 1977 to 1981. This program was federally funded by the Comprehensive Employment and Training Act which allowed the city to hire artists of varying disciplines, including musicians, painters, sculptors, writers, poets, playwrights, actors, filmmakers and photographers to enrich the city.
