“Count Mine As One Life Saved…”

“I am so grateful for what was so freely given to me through your program. My spirit was nearly dead when I came through those doors and now I am a vibrant, fully productive member of society again. I could not have done it without you and your program. Count mine as one life saved and a living example of how important your work is!”

-Lanette* (name changed for confidentiality purposes)

Lanette has done great things since coming to CCO’s Naomi House Shelter for single women. She has found work and looks forward to having her own apartment soon. It has been wonderful to watch her efforts and success!

Each day the work continues. People like Lanette turn to CCO when they have nowhere else to go. It is a joy to see our residents pressing on against all odds to recover from the hardships of homelessness.

Thank you for joining us in supporting every homeless individual and family that comes through our doors. Thank you!

Epworth Shelter History, Part One…

Epworth Shelter, mats in the gym“In the dead of winter, 65 homeless men were left to wonder if they would continue to have their beds.”
Cornerstone Community Outreach Executive Director, Sandra Jean Ramsey, has written extensively about the history and day-to-day activities of our various shelters and shelter residents. Take a minute to read her thoughts on the opening of CCO’s Epworth Shelter for single men.

Hanig’s Footwear gives New Shoes to Naomi House Ladies!

Peter Hanig and a large group of volunteers from Northwestern University, Hanig Footwear staff and his own family, blessed the single women of CCO with new high-quality shoes. Each of our ladies where treated as if they were in a Hanig shoe store. They were seated, sized and fitted for footwear.
One of our residents told me, “When I was employed I only shopped for shoes at Hanig! They are Chicago-owned and operated. This is just great!”
The volunteers made the event extra special. The respect and kindness they showed to our ladies was refreshing. They were the recipients of many smiles, words of thanks and a few hugs. It was an exceptional afternoon and we are truly grateful!
